South Texas College’s Technology Library exhibits photography by recent graduate.
South Texas College’s Technology Campus Library Art Gallery presents “STC Alumni Series,” an exhibit featuring photographs by former STC student, Veronica Matamoros.

The library is located at 3700 W. Military Hwy, Building A, in McAllen. Admission is free and open to the public.

Veronica Matamoros studied photography and received her Bachelor’s in Communication from La Universidad Iberoamerica de Puebla. She was recently awarded an Associate Degree in Imports and Exports at South Texas College. In this series of photographs, “Mi Gente,” Matamoros uses 35mm film to document people from her life in Puebla, Mexico.

The exhibit will be on view February 4 through October 9, 2020.

STC’s Library Art Gallery Program organizes exhibitions and educational programs to engage student understanding of art and its role in culture, support academic curriculum, and inspire continued education through direct engagement with artists, scholars, and original works of art.

STC’s Technology Campus Library to host a metalworking exhibit.

Artist Lecture and Reception: November 7th at 6 p.m.

South Texas College’s Library Art Gallery presents “Facets,” an exhibit featuring a group of artists who work in wearable art and petite sculpture. The artwork in this show is made from diverse materials and moves away from the idea of commercial jewelry and pushes towards an investigation contemporary art.

This exhibit will be on view September 3 through December 6, 2019, at STC’s Technology Campus Library and will feature jewelry from artists: Gloria Valentina Reyes, Valeria Baltazar, Oscar O. Padrón., Ruxanda Musunoi, and Erica Marie Briones.

The artists will be available for questions during the reception on November 7^th from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m at the Technology Campus Library Art Gallery located at 3700 W. Military Hwy, Bldg. A in McAllen. Admission is free and open to the public.

Permanent Collection: New Work

South Texas College exhibits new artwork from its permanent collection.

MCALLEN, TEXAS – South Texas College’s Library Art Gallery presents “Permanent Art Collection: New Works,” an exhibit displaying the college’s newest additions to its Permanent Art Collection. Over the years STC has built its collection from the artists they’ve exhibited since 2006.

The exhibition includes artwork by Tina Fuentes, Luis Corpus, Heaven Mendoza, and Mariela Gonzalez.

The exhibit will be on view at the Technology Campus Library Art Gallery located at 3700 W. Military Hwy, Bldg. A in McAllen. Admission is free and open to the public.

The exhibit opens Wednesday, June 19 and runs through August 9.

STC Alumni Art Show

South Texas College’s Library Art Gallery presents “STC Alumni: Carmen Castillo & Gabriela Cantú,” an exhibition by two local artists.

Castillo and Cantú both attended South Texas College before going on to UTRGV and working as professional artists in the RGV. This show celebrates alumni who began their journey at STC and continue to make an impact on the area.

The Gallery will host an artist talk/reception on April 11 from 6-7 p.m. at the Technology Campus Library Art Gallery located at 3700 W. Military Hwy, Bldg. A in McAllen. Admission is free and open to the public.

The exhibit opens Tuesday, January 29 and runs through May 10, 2019.

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month which is an annual campaign to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity. The Internet touches almost all aspects of everyone’s daily life, whether we realize it or not. National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) is designed to engage and educate public and private sector partners through events and initiatives to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity, provide them with the tools and resources needed to stay safe online, and increase the resiliency of the Nation in the event of a cyber incident.

Please join us at our four of our South Texas College Libraries for a presentation about the resources you need to stay safe and secure online.

South Texas College highlights the work of two recent B.F.A. graduates

South Texas College’s Technology Campus Library Art Gallery proudly presents “Recent BFA Graduates: Mariela Gonzalez and Victoria Zuniga,” a 2-D exhibit of paintings. The exhibit opens Tuesday, September 4 and runs through December 4, 2018. There will be an Q&A and reception on November 15 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Technology Campus Library Art Gallery. The exhibit is located at 3700 W. Military Hwy. in McAllen. Admission is free and open to the public.

Mariela Gonzalez and Victoria Zuniga both completed UTRGV’s Bachelor of Fine Arts program in December 2017. The technical skill, dedication and stories of these artists will be inspiring to current students and public and will give unique insight into a new generation of local professional artists.

South Texas College Libraries Open House 2018

The South Texas College Library joins libraries nationwide in celebrating National Library Week, a time to highlight the value of libraries, librarians and library workers.

Libraries today are more than repositories for books and other resources. Often the heart of their communities, libraries are deeply committed to the places where their patrons live, work and study. Libraries are trusted places where everyone in the community can gather to reconnect and reengage with each other to enrich and shape the community and address local issues.

The South Texas College Library is celebrating National Library Week by hosting Open House events at each campus library. The events are free and open to the public.

Monday, April 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at STC’s Technology Campus Library located at 3700 W. Military Highway in McAllen, attendees will enjoy a screening of the movie Wonder Woman, as well as a photo booth, raffle, snacks and drinks.

Tuesday, April 10 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at STC’s Pecan Campus Library located at 3201 W Pecan Blvd. in McAllen, attendees will enjoy a screening of the movie Wonder Woman, as well as games, drawings, popcorn and snacks.

Tuesday, April 10 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at STC’s Nursing & Allied Health Campus Library located at 1101 E. Vermont Avenue in McAllen, attendees will enjoy a screening of the movie Thor Ragnarok, as well a photo booth, popcorn, drinks and snacks.

Tuesday, April 10 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at STC’s Starr County Campus Library located at 142 FM 3167 Rio Grande City, attendees will enjoy a screening of the movie Thor Ragnarok, a photo booth, popcorn, drinks and snacks.

Wednesday, April 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at STC’s Mid-Valley Campus Library (CLE A-105) located at 400 N. Border Avenue, Weslaco, Texas, attendees will enjoy a screening of the movie Despicable Me 3, a photo booth, contest, popcorn, drinks and snacks.

South Texas College presents the work of STC Alumni

McAllen, TX – South Texas College’s Library Art Gallery proudly presents “STC Alumni Show,” a 2-D exhibit of both drawings and paintings by former students, Priscilla Elizondo and Olga Alanis.

The exhibit opened Tuesday, January 23 and runs through April 23, 2018. There will be an artist lecture and reception on February 15 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Technology Campus Library Art Gallery. The exhibit is located at 3700 W. Military Hwy. in McAllen. Admission is free and open to the public.

Priscilla Elizondo and Olga Alanis both attended South Texas College before moving to UTRGV to complete their Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Alanis and Elizondo’s work both lean towards 2-D figurative work with Elizondo primarily working in drawing and Alanis in painting. The technical skill, quality and stories of the former STC students’ progress will be inspiring to current students and public.

STC’s Library Art Gallery Program exhibits regional, national and international artwork, explores new visions and theories of creativity, and introduces innovative artistic expressions to the South Texas region.
