New exhibition at STC’s Weslaco campus explores identity between two cultures.

Artist Lecture and Reception: Oct. 21, 2019 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.

The South Texas College Mid-Valley Library Art Gallery presents “Fragmentos y Suturas,” an art exhibition featuring artwork by José Villalobos.

The exhibit opens on Thursday, September 5th and will be available to view until October 21, 2019, at the STC Mid-Valley Campus Library Art Gallery, Building E 1.210 located at 400 N Border in Weslaco, TX.

José Villalobos grew up in El Paso, Texas. In his artwork, Villalobos transforms seemingly everyday objects into artwork that traverses gender and orientation as it exists living between two cultures.

José Villalobos will give a lecture about his work on Monday, October 21, 2019 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the STC Mid-Valley Campus Library. A performance and reception will follow that same evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The exhibition, artist talk, and reception are free and open to the public.

The South Texas College Library Art Gallery organizes exhibitions and educational programs to engage student understanding of art, support academic curriculum, and inspire continued education through direct engagement with artists, scholars, and original works of art.
