The Platicas Sol de Aztlan will continue celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with the screening of the documentary “Harvest of Loneliness: The Bracero Program” presented by the film’s co-director, Gilbert G. Gonzalez, who will be in attendance and will participate in a Q&A session after the screening.  This event will take place in the Rainbow Room at the Pecan Campus Library on Oct. 12th starting at 6:00 pm.

The film “Harvest of Loneliness: The Bracero Program” shows how several million men, in one of the largest state-managed migrations in history, were imported from 1942 to 1964 to work as cheap, controlled and disposable workers. The documentary features the men speaking of their experiences and addresses what to expect from a new temporary contract worker program.

Dr. Gonzalez is also the author of numerous books, including Mexican Consuls and Labor Organizing : Imperial Politics in the American (check availability), Labor and Community : Mexican Citrus Worker Villages in a Southern California, 1900-1950 (check availability), and Labor vs Empire : Race, Gender, and Migration
