libevents-MuslimJourneys

The STC Library was awarded the Muslim Journeys Bookshelf, a collection of books, films, and other resources that will introduce the American public to the complex history and culture of Muslims in the United States and around the world.

Join us in celebrating the grant with three special events.

The library will open a month of festivities with a visit from Dr. Tamer Balci who will discuss “Peace and Love in the Thought of Rumi” on Tuesday April 2nd at 6:00 p.m.  Dr. Balci is a historian at UTPA and is the author of The Gulen Hizmet which will be on sale that evening.  That event will take place at the Pecan Campus Library in the Rainbow Room.

On Thursday April 11 at 6:00 p.m., there will be a screening of the documentary “Prince Among Slaves” which will be introduced by Dr. Benjamin Allen a history instructor at STC who is an expert on the topic.  It will be followed by an opportunity to discuss the film.  The film will be screened at the D-Auditorium which faces Pecan Blvd.

On Thursday April 18 at 6:00 p.m., there will be a screening of the film version of “Persepolis” with a special introduction by Daniel Tyx an English instructor at STC.  It will be followed by an opportunity to discuss the film.  It will be screened at the D-Auditorium which faces Pecan Blvd.

The Bridging Cultures Bookshelf on Muslim Journeys is a project of the National Endowment for the Humanities, conducted in cooperation with the American Library Association. Major support for the Muslim Journeys Bookshelf was provided by a grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York. Additional support for the arts and media components was provided by the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art.
