Individual Links
Faculty may wish to create direct links in Blackboard to a library database or an article, ebook, image, or video within a database so that students can easily locate a specific resource. It is important that these links are formatted so that they both on- and off-campus users do not encounter technical issues when they log in to access the resource. In the past, all library database links used EZproxy to manage logins; however, some vendors now use a different method.
Vendors that do not use EZproxy
You should not use EZproxy for the following links:
- EBSCO: Any links containing ebsco.com or ebscohost.com
- O’Reilly Safari: Add https://go.oreilly.com/south-texas-college/ to the front of the link.
Example: https://go.oreilly.com/south-texas-college/https://learning.oreilly.com/library/view/begin-to-code/9781509304547/ch04.xhtml#ch04
- OverDrive: Any links containing libapp.com/library/southtexascollege
Vendors that use EZproxy
All other links should begin with https://ezproxy.southtexascollege.edu/login?url=. If the link does not begin with this exact prepend, users will most likely encounter issues, as shown in the example below:
- Incorrect Link: https://www.jstor.com
- Correct Link: https://ezproxy.southtexascollege.edu/login?url=https://www.jstor.com
If you need to add the EZproxy prepend to a link, you can use the the EZproxy Link Tool below.
EZproxy Link Tool
Paste a link in the input box below to create an EZproxy link.
Your EZproxy link has been created. You may now copy it from the input box above and paste it into a Library Discovery List or other location within Blackboard.
Library Discovery in Blackboard
Library Discovery is a tool in Blackboard that makes it easy to select and add library resources to support your courses. With Library Discovery you can:
- Search across most library databases for articles, ebooks, and videos to find content without leaving Blackboard.
- Limit content based on date/time, performance, or users and user groups.
- Allow class conversations.
- Align content items to Goals.
To add library resources within your Blackboard Course Content, click the +, select Content Market, and select the Library Discovery tool. Use the search and filter tools to find items and click the Add button to add selected content to your course.
For databases that are not searchable through Library Discovery List, follow directions for Individual Links below to locate or create your own permanent link.
Due to technical issues, we recommend that faculty not use the Library Discovery tool in Blackboard until the vendor has released an updated version. During this time, please use the instructions above to add individual library resources to your Blackboard courses.
