Two local authors, Chuy Ramirez and Genaro Gonzalez, will be featured at the STC Mid-Valley Library on Wednesday, July 21 at 6:30 p.m. Both authors will read excerpts from their books, and copies of their books will be on sale during the event. The event is free and open to the public.

Chuy Ramirez is an attorney in McAllen who has written the short story collection, “Strawberry Fields,” which chronicles the life experiences of Joaquin. The book takes the reader on an intriguing journey as Joaquin reflects on his first years as a migrant worker, as well as how his cultural heritage has shaped his identity.

Genaro Gonzalez, a professor of psychology at The University of Texas–Pan American and four-time published author, will also be on hand to talk about his latest book. It tells the story of Gabriel, a teenager who is horrified to learn that his family is moving to California for the summer to pick fruit. Once there, he must come to terms with the role his ethnicity plays as he is faced with acts of prejudice and inequality.
