Library Instruction Sessions

Library instruction & research skills sessions for your students

We welcome your classes to the libraries for lessons and tours by specialists who tailor instruction to your needs. Libraries at most campuses have state-of-the-art classrooms for a hands-on multimedia learning experience. We can also conduct online sessions for distance education courses.

Getting the most out of a session

Our teaching librarians value the opportunity to work with instructors in order to provide a rewarding experience for your students. A bit of information beforehand can help ensure a successful session.

A description of the research assignment(s) your class will be working on helps us to identify the most relevant available sources, and to develop suggestions for applying them to the task at hand.

If you have a specific resource that you want us to introduce to your students, such as a database or a particular section of our print collection, please mention it when submitting your request. This enables us to prepare focused activities based on your needs.

You might consider setting aside some time at the end for students to begin their research and apply some of what they have learned before they rush off to their next class. This gives them immediate hands-on experience with the research tools while you and the teaching librarian are available to answer questions on an individual basis.

We offer orientations at all five campuses. Many of our classrooms have student computers and a large screen in front, an ideal setting for demonstrating our online catalog, databases, and other Web resources while giving learners a chance to actively work with what they see. We can also bring your students into the stacks to help familiarize them with the physical library. For Distance Education courses, purely online sessions are also available.
