Welcome to Library Services at South Texas College
Library Services supports the College’s education mission by providing access to information resources and instruction in information-seeking skills to the STC community.
Library facilities are located at the Technology Center, Mid-Valley Campus, Dr. Ramiro R. Casso Nursing/Allied Health Center, Pecan Campus, and Starr County Campus. Librarian assistance is available at these sites.
STC libraries hold more than160,000 cataloged items in our collections, including books, videos, and audio recordings. The Library catalogs its collections using SirsiDynix's Unicorn library automation system, which allows real-time Web-based access to the on-line catalog. Library patrons on one campus can request items from another campus library to be delivered to their campus the next day, in most cases.
The Library subscribes to more than 450 print periodicals and some 60 on-line databases. The databases index the contents of several thousand magazines, journals, newspapers, and other publications, and in most cases allow direct retrieval of the full text of the contents. The on-line databases are available at any computer on the College network, including all campus computer labs, faculty and staff computers, and the Pecan Campus wireless network. All staff and students, including distance learners, have remote access through a proxy server.
Library Services is a member of Amigos Library Services, TexShare, and OCLC. Every member of these organizations has made inter-library loan agreements to share resources with other member libraries. Thus the STC community has access to the collections of several hundred academic and public libraries across the United States. STC Library patrons can borrow materials directly from participating TexShare libraries with their current STC ID card and a TexShare card available from any STC library.
Participating TexShare libraries in the region include: University of Texas Pan American, University of Texas at Brownsville/TSC, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Texas A&M-Kingsville, and TSTC Harlingen.
Student-access computers are available at all library facilities.
